June 16, 2010: Geographic Information Systems
TOPIC AREAS & SPEAKER: Geographic Information Systems - Presented by Jeremiah Patterson
Abstract:
The idea of plotting information on a map is nothing
new. Using that information to realize new behaviors, phenomena,
track land and assets, making decisions, and “making sense”
of piles of data geographically, is the challenge of Geographic
Information Systems. The presentation will be a brief technical
overview of what GIS is, its current and emerging applications and the
current state of the art.
Speaker:
Jeremiah Patterson has a Bachelor's and Master's
degree from Iowa State University in computer science. He helped
architect the industry-leading agricultural GIS software, SMS Basic,
for Ag Leader Technology, Ames, IA and is currently leading GIS
software development for Red Hen Systems, Fort Collins, CO.
